I visited Camp Milieu in January 2016 with my good friend and guide Sameer Bakshi, he had recommended this place to me and It turned out to be a brilliant suggestion.
The camp is situated on a hilltop with stunning vistas of the surrounding mountains and valleys down below, there are great walks to be done starting straight from the camp such as Old Pony Trail, the Brahmbudu trail, and a trek to a nearby waterfall. The woodland and forests surrounding the camp is just beautiful and it was always a pleasure to get up in the morning and know we were going to be out walking in these amazing forests. We saw 9 or 10 species of mammals including the rarely seen Goral whilst on foot, countless species of birds including hornbills flying right over the camp. Most exciting of all though was the big cat footprints we saw. There was Leopard prints right in the carpark of the camp and on our walks into the nearby forests we saw Tiger footprints, scrape marks and scat. This made for an extremely exhilarating walk! At night we could hear the alarm calls of startled herbivores and we would go walk the road with our flashlights looking for the eyeshine of whatever was making or the cause of those sounds, again this is something I haven’t done before so was a real bonus to be able to do this.
The camp itself was just as I wanted it to be. It is basic but very homely, the food was outstanding, the staff very friendly and helpful, whilst at the same time not being overly intrusive.
I would definitely visit Camp Milieu again, for someone bored of sitting in the back of a Gypsy on safari waiting for the animals to show themselves then being here and being able to get out there on foot surrounded by the forest and its sights, smells and sounds this was the perfect antidote.
