This place is perfect for all Birders / Wildlife Enthusiasts & even for people who are considering a break from the mundane life in the cities , away from Cell Phones / Social Media and phone calls. However if you are looking for TV / Entertainment / Room Service / Exclusive Food , this is not the place for you.
Getting off at Ramgarh Station , you need to drive for around an hour on the road towards Nainital before you reach this camp, which is in the middle of nowhere. The drive itself is beautiful as you pass through the forests of Corbett National Park and the roads are nice . The pick-up was arranged by Rajesh and the driver Charu was good at his job. Once you reach the camp , you have to walk up around 50 meter’s to reach the camp grounds , where you immediately notice a bird feeder and a comfortable studio on your left . As you walk past this studio , you get to see 4 small mud huts which are followed by the dinner area. You are welcomed with warm smiles from the staff , who do their level best to take care of your basic requirements . The huts are comfortable / warm and clean . Hot water is provided on request . The food gives you the feeling of a home cooked meal and its delicious . Every meal which I had or even the tea being served was great in taste and fresh.
The wakeup call for you is the chirping sounds of the birds who stay in and around the camp and you need to be up early to see some of the common species which usually fly around .
Greater Yellow Nape Woodpecker / Grey Headed Woodpecker ( Male / Female ) / Chestnut Nuthatch ( Male and Female ) , Oriental White Eye , Red Billed Blue Magpie ( though this is very shy and you would only get a glimpse of it ) , Crimson Sunbird , Orange bellied Leaf bird / Grey Capped Pygmy Woodpecker / grey headed flycatcher / Russet Sparrow , Grey Treepie , Himalayan Bulbul and Rufous Sibia are some of the species which I sighted in the campus itself .
Both Rajesh and his wife Sheela are avid birders and they guide you in the best possible fashion . One should certainly travel with them to the nearby trails for a day full of birding . However if you want to explore the area on your own , then you could walk down to the nearby village where you are likely to spot the Barberts ( Great / Blue Throat ) and few other common species ( Minivets ) . The peace and tranquility of this place is also an experience . Once you are done with your birding , this is the perfect place to sit down for a nice conversation with fellow birders / family or friends or listen to music ( in your earphones as you wouldn’t want to disturb the peace around ) or just retire with a book which you want to read. As a birder , this place took care of each and every requirement which I had and I can say the same for all the birders who would have visited the place.
